Why Be Haste?

Read: 1 Samuel 14:24-46

Saul chose to make a decision that would later come back on him because of a hastily oath that he proclaimed. The oath that he proclaimed that no one could eat anything that day until he had paid back to the Philistines what they had done to him.

How foolish an oath to proclaim that day! Would it not have been better for the men to eat before going into battle? Fortunately, the men of Israel were able to strike down the Philistines and proclaim victory for that day, but they were all exhausted and sinned against God (1Samuel 14:32-33). Later that evening Saul discovered that his own son, Jonathan, had broken the oath and was willing to put him to death, but the people of Israel would not allow it and saved Jonathan.

Have you ever found yourself in a situation similar to this? I am sure you have made a quick decision and that decision later came back to be a very bad decision. You probably weren’t faced with having to put your own child to death, but I am sure there are a few decisions you wish that you could go back and change. The reality of it is that we can't change those decisions we make in haste, but we can learn from those bad decisions.

I challenge you to take each decision that you make and pray about it and think about it and wait to see what our Lord and Savior Jesus answers for you. Remember the answer God gives you may not always be the answer you are looking for, but it will always be for the best
