Read: Psalm 2:1-12
Psalm chapter 2 is a great chapter to read, and it speaks clearly about the coming rule of the future Messiah during David’s time. Although, the author is not made clear in the Old Testament, instead it is not until the New Testament that authorship is made clear to David in Acts chapter 4 verses 24-26. This Psalm, I believe, is more of a message from David, given by God, to the people of the coming Messiah. There are four key points that I would like to point out in this chapter of Psalm. The plans of the wicked, God’s reaction to the wicked, the Father’s judgment declared by the Son, and obedience to the Son by all kings as instructed by the Spirit are the four main and most obvious points to this chapter of Psalm.
What the wicked plan to do is completely described in verses 1-3. As you have already read, the nations rage, futile plots are formed by the people, and kings and rulers are ready to break away from the Lord and His Son. These three points are one of the greatest prophecies in the bible, because you can follow this all throughout history and will continue to be able to follow until the end of times. Even today, there are nations who deny the gospel, and they are not small little nations but great and powerful nations. Yet, no matter how great they appear here to us they are still weak and powerless against the Almighty.
Can you just imagine what God is thinking while he is looking down from heaven seeing these people and kings mounting up to fight against Him? If you imagine that vividly and just think about it then you can see why scripture says, “He who sits in the heavens shall laugh.” Now, it would be absurd that any nation here on earth would be able to fight the will of our Lord. That is why it is written in verses 4 and 5 that God will hold them in mockery, and He shall speak to them with His wrath and anguish them with His unfathomable displeasure.
It is written in Psalm 2:7, “I will declare the decree: The Lord has said to Me, You are My Son, today I have begotten You.” At this point in time the Messiah had not come, so the Lord adopted David as His Son and the same for all the heirs of David. Each heir of David was proclaimed in a formal ceremony of coronation where prophets and priests attended. This continued until the Messiah, Jesus Christ, is declared King and the true Anointed, and now all can be forgiven and received into the Kingdom of Heaven because of the bloodshed of Jesus’ death on the cross.
David is instructed by the Holy Spirit to write and warn the kings of the earth to be obedient and humble themselves toward the Lord. It is written in Psalm 2:11-12, “Serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.” The kings and the people of the earth are being warned by David, and they that obey will be blessed for trusting in Him. Now, those who choose not to believe and put their trust in Him will perish. This is still true today! God will bless those who believe and put their trust in Him, while they that choose not to believe will surely perish and be condemned to the fiery pits prepared for demons and Satan.
Psalm chapter 2 is a great prophetic message written by David in his time, and this message has come to pass many times throughout history with various nations. The bottom line to this message is that those who believe and trust in the Lord and obey his commandments will inherit the Kingdom of God, and those who choose not to will perish.

Blessed Are The Righteous & Condemned Are The Wicked
Read: Psalm 1:1-6
The Book of Psalm is a great book of the Bible that display’s many poems and songs by various authors. I will take you through the first 6 verses of the Book of Psalm, and I will explain some of the meanings to which the author, who is unknown, was talking about and referring to. The first 6 verses of Psalm definitely set the ground work for the entire Book of Psalm, and it reiterates the fact that there is only 1 way to God.
Verses 1 & 2 of this chapter of Psalm explain the blessed man. Now, I feel it is important to add, that the term man in this verse simply means a person with an unspecified gender, therefore throughout this article the term will be used likewise. The blessed man is the one who does not allow sin to corrupt his life, and he finds no joy in worldly possessions. The blessed man will find all his joy and delight in the scriptures of God. He will immerse himself in scripture continuously throughout the day and night. The Nelson NKJ Study Bible describes this man as, “An ideal righteous person – one who is in the world, but quite unaffected by the world.”
Verse 3 compares the blessed man to a tree that is planted close to water, and tells how it is prosperous. The analogy in this story of the tree symbolizes that the tree has its roots deep in the ground and close to the water to receive its food, and this is how the blessed man shall be. If the righteous plants their roots deep in the word of God and stay close to God they will be productive and prosperous for the Lord. Now, don’t read this verse and believe that if you study the word of God and do what is right for the Lord and expect to become rich with worldly things. This verse is not saying that! It simply means that if you stay close to the Lord you will be prosperous for Him, so you should not worry about worldly treasures for your reward awaits you in heaven.
Verses 4 & 5 tell of the judgment of those who are unrighteous. Verse 4 begins, from the Nelson NKJ Study Bible, with stating, “The ungodly are not so,” and this part of the verse tells that the unrighteous will not be like the tree planted near the water. Instead, they are worthless and deserve nothing, and these ungodly people will not be allowed to even stand with the congregation of the righteous during judgment. This is because their life will cease and be sent to the fiery pits created for the demons and Satan, while the righteous will inherit the Kingdom of Heaven.
Verse 6 is a simple summary and conclusion of verses 1-5 of this scripture. From the Nelson NKJ Study Bible, verse 6 states, “For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the ungodly shall perish.” God has given us all a choice to make, which can be best described as 2 different paths. One path leads the righteous to eternal life, while the other path leads you to nothing more than eternal damnation. The path to eternal life is not always what you want, but it is what God wants for you and Him. The path to death can seem much more appealing, luxurious, and even popular, but it is not worth having temporary possessions here when you can have permanent even more abundant possessions in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Faith in Trials Equals Patience
Read: James 1:2-8
What a great passage of scripture! There is so much to be learned from these 7 verses, but I will only touch on a few key points. James, the author, identifies the importance of patience. Also, he gives us some insight on how trials are important to us as Christians and should be a time of celebration. Last, I will point out how faith in God is our biggest and most important advantage that most of us just disregard.
Patience is very hard for most Christians to learn yet is a very essential part of our growth as Christians. James writes in verse 4, “Let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete.” What does James mean by “perfect and complete”? Perfect, meaning you have reached the end, and complete, meaning you are now whole (Thomas Nelson, Inc). The basic meaning to all of this is that, if you are patient with God’s perfect plan, and endure the trials, as they are placed at your feet, with patience then you will become “perfect and complete” or “to the end and whole” in the sight of God.
Trials can be defined as: “Of outward circumstances – conflicts, sufferings, and troubles – encountered by all believers.” (Thomas Nelson, Inc). Trials are not the most popular events in the world, and I am sure they are not on the top of anyone’s list to do. But the fact of the matter is that trials are an essential part of spiritual growth for all Christians. We need trials to teach us about patients and to test the strength of our faith because without these troublesome and sometimes very extreme events we could not grow closer and stronger in Christ Jesus.
The last point I would like to point out, though certainly not least by any means, is our faith as Christians. It is sad that most Christians, when stricken with extreme trials, either lose their faith or even far worse stop believing in the power of faith all together. It is very important for us as Christians to remember that it is our faith in Christ Jesus that will help us to prevail through any trial and everyday life. The strength of our faith is often tested through trials, and when we lose our faith we are then subject to even more extreme trials. The stronger your faith the stronger you become as a Christian and the more you can grow spiritually as a Christian.
I suppose, when you put all this together, you could say that Faith + Trials = Patience. What a simple equation to help remember how it all fits together. To simplify once again and summarize, faith is tested by trials and teaches us patience’s. So, what this teaches as with any equation is when faith is taken away or you are not enduring any trials then, we lose patience and fail to thrive in our spiritual growth as Christians. Now, I am not saying life as a Christian will be a constant state of turmoil, but I am saying you should expect trials in life as a test to your faith. When you receive these trials celebrate and be thankful for your patience will grow (strengthen) along with your spiritual connection to the Lord Jesus Christ.

We Will All Be Children of God
Read - Romans 8:16-17; Galatians: 4:6-7
Here are a few questions for you to think about prior to reading today’s devotion. Once in Heaven will I still know my kids and spouse? If my spouse dies and I remarry, which spouse will I belong to in Heaven? Will I even know my family once I am in Heaven? I have heard questions like these along the years and have often wondered myself about some of them, but one day God just hit me with the answer. After that day it became as clear to me, what the answers to all of these questions are, as a glass of purified water.
So, what are the answers to these questions? As you have already read in the scripture reference, you see that once you are saved you become an heir of God. An heir of God, how awesome is that! You are not a slave or a servant, but an heir, which simply means you are a child of God.
Now, what does all of this have to do with the questions, I had you ponder over before reading this. It is simple, as we relate here on earth to each other as brothers and sisters in Christ, that is exactly what we are, and once we are all in Heaven we are still brothers and sisters. It is kind of a wait a minute moment, but yes, no matter what relationship status we had here on earth, once in Heaven we are all joint heirs with Christ and are all brothers and sisters.
I believe the only question left to answer is, “Will I even know my family once I am in Heaven?” I am going to say yes, but not in the way we know them now. I believe that we will all know each other because we will all be family, brothers and sisters, in Heaven. I also, believe that, even though we know each other, it will be in a totally different way of how we know each other.
So to sum it all up, when you are saved by the Grace of God you become a joint heir with Jesus Christ. This means when we all get to Heaven, we will all be brothers and sisters in one big family with God as our Father to us all. Yes, we will know each other in Heaven as brothers and sisters living in total peace and harmony worshiping God, our Father, for delivering us from eternal damnation and being the wonderful gracious Father He is.

The Power of Just One
Read: John 3:16
John 3:16 is most likely the most known verse in the bible, and is quoted more than most other verses too. Even though I have read this verse and quoted this verse hundreds of times the meaning and importance is because more and more significant than before. Yet, what does this verse have to offer to the believer and more importantly the none believer? What more can we learn from this one verse? The power and significance of this one verse can and will change lives for many.
Let's examine the key words and phrases of John 3:16. The verse starts off "For God so loved the WORLD". This phrase tells us that God loves every single person who has ever lived, is living, and will live. You cannot argue any different because it was said by Jesus, who is with God and is God. Next, Jesus says, "that He (God) gave His only SON". What is so important about this statement? Look at it really close, and you will see. God gave up His one and only son, to be tortured, humiliated, and killed, for you and me. Wow! How important does that make you feel to know that? It should give you a feeling like none other, because I know it sure does me. So, why did God give up His only son? The next part of the verse will tell us why. Jesus then said, "so that NO ONE should perish, but have eternal life." God does not intend for anyone of us to die and go to hell, instead He wants us to have everlasting life with Him in the kingdom of heaven.
What an awesome God we have! Can you even imagine what our Lord was feeling on that very day when His son Jesus was executed by the very people He intends to save from the fiery pits of hell? I cannot even start to imagine how devastating it was for He who saves us, but I am for ever more grateful for Him.
Today, I challenge you to thank God for His mercy and love He has for each and every one of us, and if you are not a Christian and would like to become a Christian; I encourage you to talk to someone you know that is a Christian, contact a local pastor, or contact me here on my blog. Most importantly we all should be extremely thankful to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for sacrificing Himself for us.
