King David’s Prophetic Message of The Messiah’s Rule

Read: Psalm 2:1-12

Psalm chapter 2 is a great chapter to read, and it speaks clearly about the coming rule of the future Messiah during David’s time. Although, the author is not made clear in the Old Testament, instead it is not until the New Testament that authorship is made clear to David in Acts chapter 4 verses 24-26. This Psalm, I believe, is more of a message from David, given by God, to the people of the coming Messiah. There are four key points that I would like to point out in this chapter of Psalm. The plans of the wicked, God’s reaction to the wicked, the Father’s judgment declared by the Son, and obedience to the Son by all kings as instructed by the Spirit are the four main and most obvious points to this chapter of Psalm.

What the wicked plan to do is completely described in verses 1-3. As you have already read, the nations rage, futile plots are formed by the people, and kings and rulers are ready to break away from the Lord and His Son. These three points are one of the greatest prophecies in the bible, because you can follow this all throughout history and will continue to be able to follow until the end of times. Even today, there are nations who deny the gospel, and they are not small little nations but great and powerful nations. Yet, no matter how great they appear here to us they are still weak and powerless against the Almighty.

Can you just imagine what God is thinking while he is looking down from heaven seeing these people and kings mounting up to fight against Him? If you imagine that vividly and just think about it then you can see why scripture says, “He who sits in the heavens shall laugh.” Now, it would be absurd that any nation here on earth would be able to fight the will of our Lord. That is why it is written in verses 4 and 5 that God will hold them in mockery, and He shall speak to them with His wrath and anguish them with His unfathomable displeasure.

It is written in Psalm 2:7, “I will declare the decree: The Lord has said to Me, You are My Son, today I have begotten You.” At this point in time the Messiah had not come, so the Lord adopted David as His Son and the same for all the heirs of David. Each heir of David was proclaimed in a formal ceremony of coronation where prophets and priests attended. This continued until the Messiah, Jesus Christ, is declared King and the true Anointed, and now all can be forgiven and received into the Kingdom of Heaven because of the bloodshed of Jesus’ death on the cross.

David is instructed by the Holy Spirit to write and warn the kings of the earth to be obedient and humble themselves toward the Lord. It is written in Psalm 2:11-12, “Serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.” The kings and the people of the earth are being warned by David, and they that obey will be blessed for trusting in Him. Now, those who choose not to believe and put their trust in Him will perish. This is still true today! God will bless those who believe and put their trust in Him, while they that choose not to believe will surely perish and be condemned to the fiery pits prepared for demons and Satan.

Psalm chapter 2 is a great prophetic message written by David in his time, and this message has come to pass many times throughout history with various nations. The bottom line to this message is that those who believe and trust in the Lord and obey his commandments will inherit the Kingdom of God, and those who choose not to will perish.

Blessed Are The Righteous & Condemned Are The Wicked

Read: Psalm 1:1-6

The Book of Psalm is a great book of the Bible that display’s many poems and songs by various authors. I will take you through the first 6 verses of the Book of Psalm, and I will explain some of the meanings to which the author, who is unknown, was talking about and referring to. The first 6 verses of Psalm definitely set the ground work for the entire Book of Psalm, and it reiterates the fact that there is only 1 way to God.

Verses 1 & 2 of this chapter of Psalm explain the blessed man. Now, I feel it is important to add, that the term man in this verse simply means a person with an unspecified gender, therefore throughout this article the term will be used likewise. The blessed man is the one who does not allow sin to corrupt his life, and he finds no joy in worldly possessions. The blessed man will find all his joy and delight in the scriptures of God. He will immerse himself in scripture continuously throughout the day and night. The Nelson NKJ Study Bible describes this man as, “An ideal righteous person – one who is in the world, but quite unaffected by the world.”

Verse 3 compares the blessed man to a tree that is planted close to water, and tells how it is prosperous. The analogy in this story of the tree symbolizes that the tree has its roots deep in the ground and close to the water to receive its food, and this is how the blessed man shall be. If the righteous plants their roots deep in the word of God and stay close to God they will be productive and prosperous for the Lord. Now, don’t read this verse and believe that if you study the word of God and do what is right for the Lord and expect to become rich with worldly things. This verse is not saying that! It simply means that if you stay close to the Lord you will be prosperous for Him, so you should not worry about worldly treasures for your reward awaits you in heaven.

Verses 4 & 5 tell of the judgment of those who are unrighteous. Verse 4 begins, from the Nelson NKJ Study Bible, with stating, “The ungodly are not so,” and this part of the verse tells that the unrighteous will not be like the tree planted near the water. Instead, they are worthless and deserve nothing, and these ungodly people will not be allowed to even stand with the congregation of the righteous during judgment. This is because their life will cease and be sent to the fiery pits created for the demons and Satan, while the righteous will inherit the Kingdom of Heaven.

Verse 6 is a simple summary and conclusion of verses 1-5 of this scripture. From the Nelson NKJ Study Bible, verse 6 states, “For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the ungodly shall perish.” God has given us all a choice to make, which can be best described as 2 different paths. One path leads the righteous to eternal life, while the other path leads you to nothing more than eternal damnation. The path to eternal life is not always what you want, but it is what God wants for you and Him. The path to death can seem much more appealing, luxurious, and even popular, but it is not worth having temporary possessions here when you can have permanent even more abundant possessions in the Kingdom of Heaven.
